Joanna's Well-Check

Sweet JoJo had her 2 month well check this morning and she's doing great!

Her head measured 38-1/2 cm, weight 11 pounds (38th percentile) and length 22 inches.  Dr. Jackson was pleased.

Of course she had to have her wonderful shots...2 in one leg and 1 in the other along with her oral.  She screamed for a little bit then fell asleep once we got into the car.  Hoping she'll do okay today...which I'm sure she will.

In other news, last night was the 3rd might she slept in her crib.  I've been sleeping on the air mattress since I wasn't sure how well she would do, but she's done great.  The 1st night in, she did wake up at 2:30, 4:30 and 5:30am, but the past 2 nights she's been sleeping until 5am, eats then goes back to sleep until 7-8am.  Also, going to bed has been much easier vs in our room.  We have backout shades and curtains which has helped tremendously.  I lay her down once, even if she's wakes back up after she goes into the crib, and she's there the rest of the night.  In our room because of all the light, it would take 1.5 hrs-2 hrs to get her down.  I prefer a 7:30-8pm bedtime vs 8:30-9:30pm bedtime.

She's turning into a much happier baby.  Less fussy, not hating her car seat as much and she's okay with being in her swing or on her play mat (doesn't need to be held constantly).  You are growing up on me pretty girl!!!

2 Months Old

Sweet Joanna Grace, time has truly flown by!  You are growing like a weed and before we know it, you'll be surpassing your big sister.  I weighed you in at 11 pounds a week ago.  We'll know your true weight on the 30th for your 2 month well check.

You're wearing 0-3 months, but in Gerber onesies the 3-6 months fit you well.  For diapers you are in a size 1.  I'm hoping you aren't going to grow too fast to where you can't wear sissy's clothes this fall.  Although I'm fine buying you all new wardrobe, but I don't think daddy would like that too much :)

Your nursing like a champ!  You nurse about every 1.5-2 hours when awake.  You're not a long nurser, no more than 10 minutes and you nurse one side at a time.  There are a handful of times you'll want both sides, especially during a growth spurt. Mommy is so happy this is working out for us.  I really love it!

You are still in your pack n' play bassinet, but either tonight or this weekend we are going to try out your crib.  Daddy is ready to move off the air mattress in your room and back in the bed!

You are doing great as far as sleeping.  We start your bath after Vivian goes to bed, between 6:30-7pm.  You love your bath now!  Makes mommy so happy :)  You started enjoying it after we took you out of the sling and have you actually in the bath water.  You love kicking your little legs and splashing the water.  During your bath, mommy has your towel, jammies and swaddle heating up in the dryer so it will be nice and warm for you.  Your so pampered!

After bath we slather you in lotion, hop into our jammies and swaddle you up. We nurse in the rocker and there are a few occasions you fall asleep.  If you do fall asleep, you always wake back up.  I have to bounce you on the bed for you to fall asleep.  I'm actually happy you don't need to nurse to sleep. Your also not a comfort nurser.  You get the hiccups before bed every single night.  I guess the bouncing gets them started.  After bouncing for 10 or so minutes, I lay you in the bassinet. Usually at 7:30 pm.  You always wake back up. I'll nurse a little more, bounce and back in the bassinet.  Your usually asleep between 8:30-9pm and sleep until 4:30-5:30am.  You'll nurse and go back to sleep until 7-8am.  After your early morning nursing, you stay in the bed with me.  You seem to sleep longer in the morning when you are in the bed.

Your colic has much improved, praise the Lord!!!  No more constant screaming, especially between 5pm until bedtime.  You are actually becoming a happier little girl, except for when you're in your car seat.  You HATE that car seat.  Crossing fingers that improves soon so many isn't so stressed while driving. Speaking of being happier, you are smiling more. Love seeing your sweet little dimples.  You even let out a little giggle 2 days ago.  It was the sweetest sound.

You love your playmat and watching the musical star. You'll hangout for a good solid 30 minutes or longer.  You did hate being in your swing until we discovered you want to swing back and forth instead of side-to-side. Mommy can down place you in the swing to nap instead of me having to hold you constantly.  So happy I can now give Vivian some one-on-one attention. Not that I don't love holding you, just that sissy needs some mommy attention too.  Your also not a fan of tummy time either.  Vivian hated it as well.

You hate getting dressed.  You don't want anything going over your head and arms going into sleeves.

You still love being outside in the heat.  That's your happy place!

You got your first little cold a week ago from Vivian.  It's still lingering, but not as bad.  Just a little congested.

Your first dining experience was to Zoe's Kitchen with me, sissy and Memom.  You slept snugly in the wrap.  You may or may not have food dropped on you.  You've also been to Elijah's and Pita Delite. We haven't tempted dinner yet just because you start cluster feeding starting around 5.  You won't take a bottle, so no pumped milk for you. Mommy does pump a little for an emergency and to have milk for when I start making your baby food.

We've gone on several outings in your short 8 weeks of life...thank you Vivian.  You've been to the aquarium, serperatium, the playground, splash pad, story time, music festival, shopping, Poplar Grove Plantation, school tour for Vivian, church and the beach.

You and your sister are definitely different thus far.  Like the quote says in y'alls playroom, "Sisters are different flowers from the same garden."

I love you sweet baby girl!!!

2 years 1 month old

Vivian, you are 100% a 2 year old!  You know how to throw a good tantrum and you know how to give the best hugs and kisses.

The past couple of weeks you've started speaking full sentences.   Out of nowhere you said, "Memom, there you are!"  Amazing to hear! From then you have saying a lot more.

You love trying to make me laugh.  You make silly sounds with the cutest facial expression.  I can't help to laugh out loud!   Another silly side of you is marching.  You love to march.  You'll go around the house or in a store doing your march walk and say, "march, march, march."  So stinking cute!

You have become quite the frog catcher.  You're not afraid to pick one up and toss in your pool (which several non-water frogs have parished), toss them in your wagon for a stroll or carry them around in your bug catcher.  You are all daddy!

I try to do my best to get you out of the house to experience different things.  We've recently went to a petting farm and to the loggerhead hospital.  I drive you all the way down to myrtle grove library for storytime because Mr. Scooter does the best job.

Your FAVORITE song right now is the Golden Girls theme song.  In the car you constantly want to hear it.  That was one of the only songs that would calm you in the car when you where little.  It is a catchy little tune.

Your the best eater.  You love eating your fruits and veggies which makes mommy happy. I pray that continues. If you really like something, after taking a bite you say, "mmm, that's good!"

You love your baby sister.  I love seeing you give her sweet kisses and gentle hugs.  You've even gotten your plastic knife and fork trying to do who knows what with her.  Again, all daddy according to his childhood stories I've been told.

You are growing into a spunky, beautiful, determined little girl!  I can't wait to see you grow even more! I love you sweet angel!!!!

34

Sitting in the living room with my two girls, a congested Joanna napping on me and Vivian on the couch, who also has a cold as well, eating strawberries watching The Wonder Pets and thinking how incredibly lucky I am to have them as my daughters.

Growing up, death was a constant topic in the house because of my Dad's job and where we lived.  He sells tombstones, cut's death dates and set headstones for my uncle's monument company.  My childhood years, up until junior high, we lived directly behind the company.  I spent a lot of time playing on the headstone displays in their show yard and playing in cemeteries when I tagged along with my Dad. So without control, death is on my mind often.

As a mother, I think about my girls not having me around if something were to happen.  You never know when God calls you Home.  This is a big reason I like blogging.  Not only the girls have something special for them to read when their older, but just for them to know how much I love them and cherish our every single moment.  The good days and bad days.

So this is for my girls.  34 random things.  Why 34?  I figured I would do 34 for my age.  In 3 short months I will be another year older and creeping up to the age of 40.  4-0!!!  I can't even fathom.  I definitely don't feel 34 honestly.  It is true when they say, "age is just a number."

Here's to 34!

1.  I love music.  Music helps my stressful days.  My current favorite song that I can listen on repeat is Coldplay - A Full Sky of Stars.  I really do love that song!

2.  Mississippi will always be my 'home.'  Even though I haven't lived there in 9 years, every time I return it feels as if I've never left.  I hope we'll return back one day!

3.  I love the mountains more than the beach.  Even though we live in a beach town, I long for being in the mountains.  The love began when Memom and Papa took us to the Smokey Mountains every year to camp on our family vacation.

4. Even though the mountains is my top vacation spot, hands down the best vacation we took was out west for 2 weeks.  Mommy, daddy, Memom and Papa flew into San Francisco and visited 9 National Parks.  Yosemite, Arches and Canyonlands, Zion, Great Basin, Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Death Valley. Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam.  I dream of taking you girls there one day.

5.  Movies I can watch over and over:  Clueless, Sweet Home Alabama, Music and Lyrics, Legally Blonde, Age of Adeline, The Holiday, You've Got Mail, Sleepless In Seattle. I enjoy "chick flicks."

6.  I'm not a fan of cooking, but enjoy baking.  I have a serious and unhealthy sweet tooth!

7.  I don't like to drink my calories, that's why I mostly drink water.  I also enjoy drinking a nice glass of wine or a beer every now and then.

8. I remember my childhood vividly. I truly had the best childhood thanks to Memom and Papa!

9.  I secretly wish there was no internet simply because we are constantly on it.  I remember constantly playing outside and not seeing anyone attached to their smart phones, tablets and laptops.

10.  I'm a morning person and not a night owl like daddy.

11.  I hate my handwriting!  I wright like a 5th grader.

12.  As a child, I loved stargazing.  I once wanted to be an astronomer.

13.  When 9/11 happened, I was driving from Cleveland to MS Delta Community College for class.  I heard the news on the radio.  None of the teachers allowed us to turn on the news and had to see what happened once returning back to Cleveland.

14.  I was saved by our gracious Lord in 10th grade
grade at a concert that was being held at my high school.

15.  I loved growing up in a small town.

16.  I took dance from age 3 - 4th grade and then again in 6th grade.

17.  I was a cheerleader in elementary school, then again in 8th grade and 10th grade.  I went to public school all of my elementary days, private school 7th and 8th grade, public school 9th and 10th grade, homeschooled 11th grade, back to private school my senior year.  The year I homeschooled, I went to 2 proms :)

18.  I once ran away from a train when playing on the railroad tracks as a child.  Never do that girls!

19.  I taught myself how to do flips on the trampoline.  Spent hours learning.

20.  I am deathly afraid of lizards and frogs.

21.  I've attend several different colleges.  Holmes Community College, Jones Community College (only attended one day of class), MS Delta Community College (received my liberal arts degree), Delta State University (summer classes), University of Southern MS (half a semester) and finally received my marketing degree from MS State University.  I did a lot of bouncing around, but finally finished.

22.  I lived in Knoxville, TN for a semester before attending MSU.  I worked the front desk of a hotel.

23.   The Golden Girls reminds me of Saturday nights at your Great Grandmother Sanders.

24.  As a child, I was going to stay a week at grandmama's house and I was scared because her house was so old.  I wrote a letter to your Memom and while writing it, I was in tears.  She noticed the tear drops on the letter and picked me up early.  She was only 25 minutes away.  She bought me a trampoline.

25.  I prefer raw cookie dough over the baked cookie.

26.  Your daddy and I met at MSU.

27.  Fall is my favorite season.

28.  My favorite Disney movie is The Little Mermaid.  That was my first Disney movie to see in the movie theater and owned on VHS.

29.  The very first movie I saw at the movies was Jewel of the Nile.  Guess Memom wanted to see that real bad :)

30.  I'm afraid of tornadoes.  Once me, memom and papa had to drive down the road to take cover under a bridge that was underneath the road.  Very scary.

31.  I only want the best for you girls.

32.  I said I was never having children because I was afraid of the pain that I would endure.  Yes, it was painful but that pain went away immediately as I had both of you in my arms.

33.  You two are my greatest accomplishments.

34.  Vivian, you made me a mother and Joanna, you completed our family.  I love you girls with all of my heart!!!

2 Year Well-Check

Miss Vivian had her 2 year appointment on Monday and she did awesome.  I've delayed her chicken pox vaccine until she started school this fall, but went ahead and did it so we wouldn't have to make another trip for her. Not going to lie, I was nervous about her getting a shot.  Not because its a vaccine, but how she acts when she gets a tiny scrap or bug bite.  She's a little over dramatic.  I thought for sure she was going to make a big deal out of it.  She definitely proved me wrong!

When the nurse came in, we got her head circumference, height and weight.  Her head measured at 44 centimeters, she's 33 inches tall and weighs 22.5 lbs.  Just a tiny peanut!  After getting her measurements, she had to get her finger pricked...didn't know that was going to happen.  Child didn't even flinch or cry.  The nurse was so impressed!  As was my Mom and I.

Dr. Jackson came in and said Vivian was doing great.  She's still growing on the chart, just on the petite side.  She's in the 21st percentile for heighth and 16th percentile for weight.  The weight percentile was based of the infant scale, on the toddler scale she's 5th percentile.  He wasn't concerned, nor am I.  The kid can put away some food!  He did say for her to continue with whole milk.

After Dr. Jackson stepped out, the nurse came back for her shot.  My Mom held her arms since I was wearing JoJo. The nurse told her to hold her arms tight because she would probably try to reach for the shot.  The nurse gave her the shot and Vivian just laid there.  Didn't move an inch!  We were all so impressed with her!  I was nervous over nothing.

After her appointment, we took her to Learning Express for a 'happy' since she did an AWESOME job!  She got some Melissa & Doug mermaid reusable stickers and a water paint travel pad.  The pad pages are hard, reusable and mess free. Perfect for a toddler!

I was so proud of my big girl.  We have Joanna's 2 month appointment in a couple of weeks and I can guarantee you there will be tears.
